Uniform brown buckram with gilt title on the spines. = Based on the researches by Louis Leakey and his team in Eastern Africa. The strata studied are Miocene to Pleistocene in age and contain usually well-preserved fossils, including monkeys, bats, giraffes, rhinoceroses, snakes and other animals that lived simultaneously with the hominids that made Leakey famous. The third volume, published after Leakey's death, contains his portrait (frontispiece) and an obituary.
