Dieses Buch gibt einen Überblick über das Methodenarsenal, das heute beim Gentransfer in Säugetierzellen zum Einsatz kommt. Zunächst gehen die Autoren auf die Wahl von Marker- oder Indikatorgenen und die Bedeutung verschiedener regulatorischer DNA-Elemente ein. Nach einer Darstellung der physikalischen Gentransfermethoden folgen ausführliche Kapitel über die unterschiedlichen viralen Vektorsysteme, vor allem Retroviren, Adenoviren und adenoassoziierte Viren.
