These accounts included assessments of the general situation, estimates of the Allies situation, casualty figures, equipment losses, and descriptions of resistance activities. Commanded successively by Erwin Rommel, Günther von Kluge, and Walter Model, Army Group B bore the brunt of the Allied assault--D-Day, the Normandy campaign, and Operation Market-Garden--and these reports reveal what the German Army was thinking as it confronted the invasion.Essential primary source on the German defense of Western Europe in World War IIConcise chapter introductions provide historical context for the reports.

About the book >.>.> Struggling for the freedom of one's own country whilst on foreign soil is not a common experience in the history of warfare. In the case of Poland, battles for independence carried abroad were immortalised by the words of the National Anthem originating from the Napoleonic era. In keeping with this tradition, following the German invasion of Poland in 1939, many thousands of Polish soldiers escaped to the West to fight for the re-establishment of Poland, regardless of the hardship and sacrifice involved. The 'Sikorski Tourists as the Germans called them, made their way to France and, after its fall, to England. I was one of Sikorski's tourists in the 1st Polish Armoured Division under the command of Major-General Stanislaw Maczek.
