Gregory's obituary in Architectural Digest noted; "Though Alexis Gregory may not be a widely known name, scores of interior designers, architects, and style enthusiasts have plucked up the lavish books published by the founder of Vendome Press. Sadly, Gregory died of Parkinson s disease and COVID-19 this past weekend. He was 83 years old. . Some 40 years ago, the Swiss-born Russian and American émigré launched his publishing house. An imprint devoted to architecture, interior design, and photography, it has released tomes on topics such as French culture, fashion, jewelry, and travel. Sumptuous imagery has always been a mainstay of Vendome books a tradition that has been maintained since the imprint began to be distributed by Abrams Books. AD100 stalwarts such as Peter Pennoyer and Tom Scheerer have penned volumes, while works such as Haute Bohemians by photographer Miguel Flores-Vianna have graced many a well-appointed coffee table in recent years. Gregory himself also wrote a number of books, including The Golden Age of Travel, Families of Fortune, Private Splendor, Families of Fortune, Place Vendome, and In the Spirit of Venice. He also contributed stories to Condé Nast magazines such as Vanity Fair and Condé Nast Traveler.
