Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. First Printing. Frontispiece, Publisher's Foreword, Preface, "Beyond the Intellect", "Tales of Tokuzan"; 121 pages, followed by a page of information on the Buddhist Society. The jade-green cloth is very good---with only a teensy tear at the top of the spine; the gilt lettering is as bright as if first issued. The interior is fresh and crisp and clean. The original pictorial dustjacket is price-clipped with a sunned spine and a tiny closed tear at the top; there is also a small fingerprint spot---visible in one of the multiple images of the actual book. From the Foreword: "This writer alone, in my experience, has found for himself and learnt to use the technique of the Chinese Masters of Zen. Here is no thought, as we in the West regard that term, no strivings to build with concept the roofless palace of no-thought. Here is a simple, humble and direct approach to each person, each thing and each situation by a delicately poised Zen mind. Here is the whimsical, imaginative mode of self-expression which reveals nonetheless the rapier thrust of direct experience." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly, with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID-19, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.
