Growing up in Wiltshire, Jefferies spent a great deal of time with his father, farming the land, which nurtured his love of the countryside. This charming novel is set in Jefferies home county of Wiltshire, with the author claiming that if one tenth of the story was removed, the remaining portion would be reminiscent of his own personal experiences. With six pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear. Bound in the publisher's original cloth. Externally, very good, with light rubbing to joints, causing small splits to the front. The odd mark to cloth and a little discolouration to the spine. Internally, firmly bound, with the front endpaper and first blank a little strained. Pages are bright and clean, with a few spots to the first and last few pages. Very Good. book.
