Book
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. Reprint. pp: 321. The updated edition bound in pictorial card covers. The story of the Germans who left their home country to come to Canada during the second half of the nineteenth century. They used the newly opened Opeonga Road to settle in the Ottawa Valley. They found fields that were covered in stones and used the phrase that is the title of the book to describe their land. This history is the result of many interviews of the descendants of the original settlers, as well as research into historic documents, church records, letters, and diaries. As one might expect, there is a considerable amount of genealogical information in the book. There are also many vintage photographs. The appendices contain a list of German and Wendish surnames. This is a very good copy with reading creases on the sspine, a bookplate on the reverse of the front cover, and light soiling on the rear cover.
