Limited to 1000 sets, this being one of 800 of those printed on "Fine Book Paper", number 728. Previous owner's inscrption dated Sept. 1898 on front fixed endpaper of volume 1. The boards are worn and have cracked gutters which have been amateurishly repaired. Volume 4 is an index and map volume and is lacking 2 of the 3 fold out maps that are supposed to be in the rear pocket. The fold-out map "New Map of the Route of Lewis and Clark in 1804-5-6" is present and is in overall "very good" condition with a few small tears. Frontispiece portrait in volumes 1 and 2, 2 facsimile letters of Lewis and Clark in volume 1, 5 single page maps as well as a fold-out geneological table in volume 4. Stain to front cover of volume II. A working set. "Second in importance only to the original journals.
