Franz Landsberger, Born in Katowice in 1883, he grew up and studied in Breslau and subsequently in Berlin, Geneva and Munich. He specialized in art history; he was a lecturer at the Breslau University from 1912, and a professor there from 1918. He edited Polish art journals, published essays in 1926, and was considered the local authority in the field of art history. As an art expert and the manager of Berlin's Jewish museum, he was forced to leave Germany and was appointed a professor in Hebrew Union College and manager of the Jewish museum there, in Cincinnati. He passed away on March 17th, 1964. Subjects: Jewish art - History. Contains bookplate of Steinhardt Family Library inside. Light wear to cloth, otherwise fresh. Very good condition. (ART-23-7).

Franz Landsberger, (1883-1964), art historian, studied art history, philosophy and literary studies at the universities of Berlin , Geneva , Munich and Breslau. Landsberger taught as an extraordinary professor at the University of Breslau until 1933 generating many German-language works. He served as head of the Jewish Museum in Berlin in 1935, especially connected with Max Liebermann during this time and was taken to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in 1938; he was able to leave for England soonafter due to an invitation from Oxford university. From there he moved to the U.S.A., where he was appointed to the Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati devoting all his labor to the study of Jewish art. With his book 'The History of Jewish Art', published in 1946 and with further contributions to this subject, he became a recognized authority in this field. , Size : 8vo.
