Translation form the Spanish of a defense plea by Fidel Castro. "History Will Absolve Me" was a two-hour speech given October 16, 1953 by Castro. It was his self defense against charges brought about by by his leadership of the attack on Moncara Barracks. He was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison but was granted amnesty by Batista in 1955. During his incarceration, he revised the original speech and iy subsequently became the manifesto of the 26th Of July Movement.

On 26 July 1953 the Moncada Barracks were attacked by a small group of men led by Fidel Castro. The barracks were manned by troops of the then Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista, and, the majority of the group were killed or imprisoned. One of the imprisoned was a lawyer by the name of Fidel Castro, and, on 16 October of the same year he delivered his long self-defence speech, of which this book reproduces. For, as the front fold over panel blurb says " . the speech outlines the programme of reforms which the successful revolution later put into practice. In his fiery indictment of Baptista's regime, his panoramic view of the Cuban liberation movement, his invocation of radical political philosophy and the great revolutions of the past  French, American or Russian, above all in his passionate love for Cuba and Latin America ."
