Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. First edition. Front pastedown and fly with bookplates; near fine with the spine sunned, without dustwrapper as issued. The author's first solo book, Inscribed by him to Henry Nehemiah Dodge, a New Jersey dentist and author who published four volumes of poetry and whose papers are now at the Andover-Harvard Theological Library; on the front pastedown is a bookplate in memoriam of Dr. Dodge (1843-1937). In addition to Dodge's signature, the front fly bears the bookplate of William Efner Wheelock, the author's father. Affixed to the back fly is an envelope addressed to Dodge, containing a promotional sheet for this book and a very warmly written manuscript letter (both pieces Signed), in which Wheelock calls Dodge "a true poet, older in skill and wisdom." A fascinating provenance - how often does one prominent poet have another as his family dentist?.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Small 8vo, rubbed around the edges, spine label chipped, but seemingly Wheelock's own copy.INSCRIBED."To Jack from Mama," signed in another place by Wheelock and then SIGNED and dated in yet another place by his mother. The only way this makes sense to me is that his mother, having payed for the book, then presented him with the first copy? Heavily annotated in the text by Wheelock mostly in pencil, in one case almost rewriting the poem.(VV3/2. Signed by Author(s).
