Plate from a series of fish: De groote vis. (The large fish: wales hunting, harpoon.) The text says in old Dutch: 's Is Monstereus. (It's Monstrous.) Copperplate engraving and etching combination on verge type hand laid paper. Description: Beschouwing der Wereld, bestaande in Hondert konstige Figuuren .' by Jan Luiken, Amsterdam 1725. (Examination of the World, consisting of one hundred Art plates .) This edition was puplished by Kornelis vander Sys.Artists and Engravers: Jan Luyken / Luiken (1649-1712) and his son Caspar made over 3000 etchings. He illustrated many emblematic and biblical works. In this work he illustrates his own work as an author. From his work one can read his creativity and imagination. Condition: Fine. General age related toning and light staining. Irregular right margin and / or small holes from binding not affecting image. Small tear at bottom left, backed by acid free tape. Carefully review the scan as it gives a good impression of its condition. Storage location: A42-36 The overall size is ca. 3.9 x 6.1 inch. The image size is ca. 3.1 x 3.3 inch.
