Light green cloth, titled in gilt on red spine panel; xii,370pp. Contemporary ownership inscription to title page, later owner's stamp to front pastedown, and occasional pencil annotations in what appears to be Greek. Sound but rubbed, with small tear at head and spots to top edge, internally foxed: around Very Good. Forel, "Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Zurich and Director of the Burghölzi mental hospital, [.] became very adept at hypnotism and used it in his psychiatric work and as a treatment for physical illnesses." This work "is concerned largely with the forensic aspects of hypnotism. . . the book became very well known and was often revised and augmented" (Crabtree pp288-9).
