Ackerman, being of imaginative mind, bequeath to the Fantasy Foundation, upon my demise, my 1300 fantasy books" (4 July 46) Good- (3 of 10) browning, esp to cover and 1st page (which appears to be of lessor quality paper than the rest), chips to edges esp cover, copy of R.W. Marshall (pencil name on cover) some pencil notes to cover and inside cover, pencil checks throughout (to just about every item listed, some few in red-pink pencil.) rear cover pull at 3rd staple. [Compiled by 4E Ackerman in July of 1946. 500 copies were mimeographed by E. Everett Evans. Printed on one side only. 28 pgs. 8.5'' x 11'' Staplebound softcover booklet. A listing, with some notes, of the 1,300 "fantasy books" that, at the time, comprised the famous Forrest J Ackerman collection (which of course would continue to grow into the largest private SF collection ever assembled). Aside from the primary bibliography, it also includes lists of relevant non-fiction, Esperanto, and books in languages other than English. A listing of Forrest Ackerman's fantasy and science fiction books, accumulated 1928 to 1945, which he intended to donate to the Fantasy Foundation. As the library grew to number in the hundreds of thousands, his plans changed; he offered them to the City of Los Angeles, which refused to accept responsibility; the German government failed to raise funds for a museum dedicated to it; and eventually the collection was dispersed in a series of public and private sales lasting over 20 years. A valuable reference, and an immensely important document in the history of science fiction.
