(2883) Nell'intendimento dell'A. di questa classica opera, la definizione di 'giardino italiano' è da intendersi in senso stilistico, non geografico, ossia riferita a quel tipo di giardino le cui forme, tra il Quattro e Cinquecento e tra Firenze e Roma, costituirono allora e in seguito l'arte italiana del giardino. Il Dami, dopo un breve cenno ai giardini trecenteschi, tratta per ognuno dei secoli successivi dei principali giardini allora esistenti nell'Italia centrale, in Toscana, Lombardia e Veneto, della loro concezione architettonica, della tonalità "barocca" secentesca e settecentesca, dell'influenza del giardino francese e della fine del giardino 'italiano' e per reazione all'eccessiva stilizzazione lineare di quest'ultimo. Infatti l'insofferenza verso la violenza che della natura facevano i giardinieri francesi e italiani e il dilagare delle idee romantiche e rousseauiane, portò alla creazione del giardino inglese, in cui alla concezione architettonica si sostituì quella pittorico-paesaggistica, inneggiante ad una ideale libertà 'rustica'. Nel complesso buon esemplare fresco. Celio Malesoini. Avventuriero veneziano, vissuto dal 1531 oltre il 1609, che, dopo avere militato nelle Fiandre al servizio degli Spagnoli, condusse in diverse città d'Italia un'esistenza molto irregolare, ora falsario e truffatore, ora gentiluomo e organizzatore di spettacoli, quando confidente segreto di governi, quando letterato. Ridottosi verso il 1580 nella sua Venezia, pubblicò senza il consenso dell'autore alcuni canti della Gerusalemme liberata; indi tradusse dal francese e dallo spagnolo il Trésor di Brunetto Latini e il Jardín de flores curiosas di Antonio Torquemada. Opera di qualche pregio sono le sue Ducento novelle, composte a Mantova dal 1595 al 1605 per fuggire l'ozio, e pubblicate a Venezia nel 1609.
