Condition: Fair. No Edition Remarks. 206 pages. No dust jacket. Blue pictorial cloth covered boards. Black and white photographic plates throughout with some sepia plates tipped to brown card. Colour tipped in frontis also on brown card. Pages are heavily tanned and thumbed at the edges. Heavy foxing throughout. Some mild cracking to gutters, heavy cracking to front and rear hinges with exposed netting. Binding slightly loose. Corners are dogeared in places. Heavy creasing and marks to frontispiece. Boards are a little rub worn with slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are a mildly crushed, with small splits and chips. All surfaces tanned, particularly spine. Gilt lettering to spine is dulled but remains brighter on front.

Decorative Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. A crisp, very appealing copy of the 1914 1st American edition. Clean and Near Fine in its deep-blue cloth, with bright gilt-titling and mounted images along the spine and front panel. Internally very clean, with just a touch of chipping along several page edges. Thick octavo, a number of photographic illustrations plus a dozen tipped-in, captioned, full-page plates ("photo-micrographs") complementing John Ward's text.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1st US. First American Edition. No date on title page, publication year found on OCLC. Blue cloth boards with gilt lettering and insect designs in black on cover and spine. Spine is slightly toned with bumping to head and tail; minor rubbing to edges and hinges; mild soiling. Black on cover has started to wear away. Gutters have begun to crack, but binding is still fairly tight. Interior is clean except for very slight toning. Bookplate from previous owner on front pastedown. Includes 12 plates with tipped in photos on thick black paper as well as 32 glossy plates printed with black and white photos. This scarce natural history book on the life cycles of various insects was written in an attempt to popularize the science of entomology.
