Quite handsome, quite tight second printing of this thick history first published in 1981. Of special interest is a heavy stock 5½" X 8½" leaf tipped in before half-title page signed large and bold in black fineline by one of UVA's most renowned professors: DUMAS MALONE (1897-1986), Thomas Jefferson Foundation Professor of History whose massive six-volume biography of Jefferson (1948-81) earned him the 1975 Pulitzer Prize.
