PHOTOGRAPHS: The photographs in this book are published with the courtesy of the following copyright holders: the Bell family, the National Geographic Society and The American Telephone and Telegraph Company. The author and publishers are especially grateful to Gilbert H. Grosvenor for the excellent photographs of the Bells taken by himself. Dr. Grosvenor is largely responsible for the compilation of the family records upon which this book is based. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: To write this book Helen Waite spent many weeks meticulously examining the monumental collection of the Hubbard-Bell letters and diaries and other family material, including photographs which Dr. Gilbert Grosvenor had assembled and correlated in the Bell Room of the National Geographic Society in Washington, D. C. Her task also took her to Florida, and--most thrilling of all--to Beinn Bhreagh, the home Mabel and Alexander Graham Bell made for themselves in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. She spent eight wonderful days at the Alexander graham Bell Museum there, she saw the places where Dr. Bell had worked, she sailed the Bras d'Or, talked to the people who had been with the Bells, and finally climbed to the summit of their Beautiful Mountain where they lie buried. She feels that she grew very well acquainted with the Bells, and hopes that she has captured half of this feeling in the book. EXCERPT: AUTHOR'S NOTE All persons, places, incidents and conversations in this book are authentic, the source material being family letters; diaries; Dr. Bell's "Home Notes"; copies of the Beinn Bhreagh Recorder, the Bell Family newspaper; and other family papers filed in the Bell Room of the National Geographic Society, which were made available to me by the Bell Family. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
