Octavo, pp. [1-4] 5 [6] 7 [8] 9-318 [319: ads] [320: blank], six inserted plates with illustrations by Studley O. Burroughs, original blue cloth, front and spine panels stamped in orange, top edge stained orange. First edition. An American explorer finds a flourishing ancient civilization in the interior of Cambodia. The second and scarcest book published by Burroughs's publishing company. Clareson, Science Fiction in America, 1870s-1930s 109. Teitler 214. Bleiler (1978), p. 35. Reginald 02285. Heins JG-1. Light tanning to free endpapers with faint ghosting on front free endpaper from early owner's name and address inked at upper left corner of the front paste-down, touch of rubbing to cloth along bottom edges, and hint of sunning to spine panel, a very good copy in near fine dust jacket with light wear at spine ends, two corner tips and along top edge of rear panel, and light uniform dust soiling to spine panel. Book and jacket were married at sometime in the past, but not before the owner's name had ghosted on front free endpaper, an obvious impossibility if the book was always in its jacket. Still, an attractive, presentable copy of one of the more uncommon Burroughs first editions. (#113327).
