In fair to good dust jacket with small chips along edges and spine ends and some water stains along spine. Some rubbing to jacket and a little dirt soiling. Numerous small edge tears and creasing. Some toning to paper as expected. Illustrations, excepting cover, are all in b&w. 297 pages. Hinges are reasonably sound. Front board illustration is virtually un-rubbed thanks to the dust jacket. Original copyright is 1922.

First edition, early printing of Thompson's second fantastical continuation of Frank Baumâ s 'Oz' stories. Octavo, original cloth with colored pictorial paper onlay, illustrated plates by John R. Neill. In very good condition. Ruth Plumy Thompson was chosen by Baum's publishers to continue the 'Oz' series due to her talent for storytelling and her familiarity with the world of Oz. In 'Kabumpo in Oz,' Prince Pompadore of Pumperdink receives a scroll on his eighteenth birthday, warning that unless he weds a 'proper princess' within seven days, his kingdom will disappear. The prince, along with the kingdom's wise elephant Kabumpo, set off on an adventure to the Emerald City, so Pomp can find a princess to wed.

The 4-page gathering before title page (Princess Dorothy illustration and Kabumpo full color plate) are ripped out (not attached, but still present). Overall book is in good condition, pages are clean and unmarked, binding is otherwise sound. 12 full color plates, glossy on picture side only. Illustration captioned "Princess Dorothy" is in front of book and Kabumpo illustration is at back. Standard ampersand on spine. Elephant on mock title. Top corner of page 259 is chipped. The binding has been reattached and the endpapers replaced by a professional bookbinder. Corners bumped and worn. Rubbed and the spine a little faded.
