Book
Print on Demand Edition 2011. xv, 17-612 pp., index + illus., maps The Battle of King's Mountain, October 7, 1780, turned the tide of the Revolution in the South, bringing to an end many months of British occupation in the Carolinas and Georgia. Draper's classic account of this important battle includes early background events, notes of the life of British commander Patrick Ferguson, other upcountry skirmishes and battles, and finally a lengthy account of the battle itself. To write this definitive history of the battle, Draper sought out and interviewed witnesses and relatives of witnesses, and collected original letters, accounts of the battle, and other primary documents. Biographical information on the leaders and officers make this a valuable book for genealogists as considerable genealogical data was gathered from the records of Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia.

First Edition
Poor condition 1st Edition/1st Printing hardcover. Has to be graded Poor because the front cover is completely detached, but this is a prime candidate for restoration since the covers and spine are quite clean, the gilt design and lettering is still shiny, and all pages, plates, plats and the full-page map are intact. Very light toning to pages with a few showing light foxing as well. Spine cracked in a few places. None of the corners are bumped but all are a bit rub worn. Rub wear to top and bottom edges of covers and spine. Top and bottom edges of spine are frayed and some of the bottom 1/2" of cloth is missing from bottom of spine. Extensive appendix and index. Based on material gathered over a forty-year period from survivors of the engagement, their descendants, contemporary narratives, and original documents. It contains extensive sketches, notices, and biographies of the leading figures, including considerable genealogical data.
