Paperback. Condition: Good. Later printing. Oblong 12mo, 285+ pages, green and red wrappers, upper right corners curled Number R-25 in this series. Kitty Foyle is representative of a generation of women who were children in the 1920's, and girls in the 1930's and who have known a special kind of joy and trouble. In school, in business, in love, in her struggle against a massive and forzen social tradition - and in her defeat which looks strangely like victory - we get to know and admire her.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. Special Edition. KITTY FOYLE, Christopher Morley, hardcover with dust jacket (price not printed), ?Madison Square? movie tie-in reprint by Grosset & Dunlap by arrangement with J.B. Lippincott, 1939. BOOK CONDITION: good. The text block is in good condition, with no dogears or marks, but there is a very tiny tear at the bottom of title page and one afterwards, as well as a very tiny nick in the top of pages 289-314. Pages are age-toned. No signature or bookplate of a prior owner, but there is a 1943 gift inscription on the first free endpaper. The original bookstore label is affixed inside the rear cover. Not a library book or remainder. The orange cloth boards are in fairly good condition (bumped corners and spine, edgewear, and convex curvature, but binding is still good). Dust jacket is in poor condition (complete, but last inner flap panel is detached, lots of edge chipping and tears, soiling and rubbing). 7 ½ x 5 ¼, 340 pages, 10 ounces XX [From the dust jacket] I read about the guts of the Pioneer woman and the woman of the dustbowl and the gingham goddess of the covered wagon. What about the woman of the covered typewriter? What has she got, poor kid, when she leaves the office. The trouble with wedlock is, there's not enough wed and too much lock. Men are good about Telling the World, but pretty often some woman whispered it to him first. Being in love makes a woman feel quiet and man feel talkative. The union label of the White Collar Girl is the alarm clock. So much of yourself is locked up inside and you can't get it out when you want it. These are only a few of the remarks which have made Kitty Foyle the most talked of American girl of today. One of the millions of white collar girls, she discusses her problems and her thoughts with such utter frankness and honesty that it is no wonder that hundreds of thousands of people consider Kitty Foyle a real person, whom they might meet at any time, just around the corner. Her story is told by Kitty herself, thinking over what has happened up to her present age of twenty-eight. From her childhood in a manufacturing region of Philadelphia, in her modest Irish-American home, to her love for Wyn, scion of a wealthy Main Line family; from her first small job to her success with a famous New York cosmetic house?all is told by Kitty with complete candor. It is a woman thinking to herself?it is confession that is well worth hearing?it is a story deep with humor and courage and pathos. "For Kitty Foyle is as real and as American in material, plot, and the idiom of feeling as a sound and shiny red apple" (Fanny Butcher). "Morley has written a novel the whole nation can laugh and weep over, for it is both American and human to the core? (Boston Herald). XX For her portrayal of Kitty Foyle in the 1940 RKO movie of the same name, Ginger Rogers won her only Oscar.
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Photoplay Edition. Photoplay edition. No stills from the movie but Ginger Rogers photo as Kitty on the front panel of the dust jacket. No wear to the binding. No distortion from reading or improper shelving. Pages are tight and clean with no marks. Previous owner's bookplate on the front flyleaf. No odor. No water damage. No soiling. The dust jacket shows light edge wear, no sun fading.
