Item Description: Harper and Brothers, 1906. Hardcover. Book Condition: Fine. First Edition. New York 1906. 8vo, publisher's blue cloth, 1028 pp. A particularly well preserved set of Lew Wallace's autobiography, unread and in near fine condition with private bookplates to front pastedowns but no other notable flaws. "Lew Wallace, an Autobiography (1906) was published posthumously. Wallace completed the text only to the action at Monocacy in 1864, but his wife, with the aid of Mary H. Krout, stitched together an account of the rest of his life from the documents he had assembled. When he died, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, regretting that he was not strong enough to escape the midwestern winter by sojourning to his well-loved New Mexico, Wallace was probably both Indiana's and New Mexico's most famous citizen, although the statue of him that was erected in Washington represents Indiana in the U.S. Capitol." - ANB.
