Book
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good Plus to Very Good. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). The award-winning Styron's first novel, the story of a dysfunctional Southern family told against the background of 1950s Southern issues including religious fundamentalism, racism and rural values in the face of increasing industrialization. Originally issued in 1951. The book club edition was a 1967 re-issue following Styron's Pulitizer Prize for "The Confessions of Nat Turner." Previous owner's name and date written neatly on both front and back end papers and the title page, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square. The dustjacket shows a small triangular chip missing from top of spine and a 3/4 inch tear along fold between dj's back panel and back flap, o/w only very minor surface and edgewear. Makes a very decent reading copy of an important mid-20th century novel.
