2-page ALS penned just two weeks before the successful Broadway opening of First Monday in October (Fonda's last live stage appearance). Written on letterhead from The Wyndham hotel in New York along with envelope addressed to James Stewart at his Beverly Hills, CA address. Housed in custom half-tan leather over cream linen clamshell box. Included is the book "Hank & Jim: The Fifty-Year Friendship of Henry Fonda and James Stewart" by Scott Eyman. Henry Fonda and James Stewart were best friends for 50 years. Roommates in New York as young 20-somethings and later in Hollywood, the two Oscar winners' friendship lasted through war, marriage(s), children, careers and everything else. In this chatty 2-page letter, Fonda confesses âI have been haunted by guilt that I was never able to find the time to work with you on the glider - but I really had been looking forward to it - Please don't give up on me though I won't blame you if you start without me -â He invites Stewart to join him for dinner in New York and gossips about their old friend Josh Logan (âwho's in great shape') and Jack Lemmon (he's stupendous! Incredible! You mustn't miss it -â) before closing urging Stewart to âtry to stretch (your visit) if you can -âTwo Hollywood legends and life-long friends - at ease.
