Softcover. Condition: Fair. First Edition (?). Side-stapled cloth overlain with pictorial paper. Much wear ro edges, corner sand surface. Spine completely worn away but stapled binding is quite secure and book is square. First twenty pages or so have much wear with parts of pages torn away. The bulk of the book, with its very nice, late 19th century illustations is in nice shape except for some foxing and toning. Not really a collectible copy but a usable one, particularly for illustrations. ; Color and B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; Unpaginated pages; Story and poem book with many full-page illustrations. Not signed as such but this copy was owned by the illustrator and has his bookplate (designed by himself) to the front pastedown. Kenneth Mathiason Skeaping (1856?1946) was a lithographer, portrait painter and illustrator, and father to sculptor John Skeaping. A collection of childrens' stories, very much late-Victorian in style, and illustrated throughout by Skeaping. Condition: Fair condition only. The boards are rubbed and the inner binding is quite heavily pulled particularly to the last few chapters. The pages with some tanning and spotted foxing to margins. However, a nice copy of Skeaping's bookplate.
