Limited First Edition. Leather bound 8vo (9.5 inches tall) 419 pages. Bibliography, index. Marbled endpapers. Description: A limited first edition, Signed by the author, printed exclusively for members of The Signed First Edition Society. The author has written a special message for this edition. Frontis illustration by Susi Kilgore. Includes three maps (one is a double page map) and a short section of black and white photo plates. The ''Long March'' of this account is the hurried retreat in 1934 of the Red Army of China in the face of Chiang Kai-shek's legions. One year later they had survived and begun the movement that was to bring Mao Zedong to power. The story of that march is here told by Harrison E Salisbury who traveled 7,400 miles over the backroads of China, retracing the route. He interviewed scores of ordinary men and women who made the march. And spoke at length to leaders who were all veterans of that ordeal. Salisbury was also granted access to archives and documentary files never before opened to scholars. BINDING/CONDITION: leather binding; raised spine bands; gilt borders and decorations; all edges gilt; ribbon place marker; Fine condition. ISBN: B00EJYDYMY.
