Cloth. Condition: Near Fine. No Jacket. First Edition. Not in Hudson's Bay to Haro Strait or Howes. Blue cloth, index, 454 pp. Gilt lettering on the spine is bright and clean. Folding maps and charts. This would be a fine copy were it not for the two very small tears at the tip of the spine and the owner's inscriptions on the inside front cover and the fact that they have been careful lined out with single strokes. The hinge is starting on page 1 Chapter 1. Still a very handsome, bright copy. The seizure of Fort Louisbourg was a seminal event in the French and Indian War in the middle of the eighteenth century and let to the British take over of Canada. The French would ultimately be forced out of North America during the Napoleonic Wars. An important work in wonderful condition. Foldout illustration of a model of Louisbourg 1713 - 1761 from the Louisbourg Museum as the frontispiece. Other illustrations include a map of Isle Royale; Projects of Fortification, Verville,1717; Captain Young's map, 1716; Louisbourg, 1734; Plan of First Seige,1745; Boscawen's Ships; First Landing and the Attack and Defence in Three States; Demolition of Fortifications. Gift inscription for an Aunt to a nephew Christmas 1929. Subsequent owner has single line out the previous notations. Still, a very nice copy of the first edition.
