Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Very decent overall copy of the uncommon first printing from 1951. Binding solid, interior free of marks. From the collection of a tobacco smoker, so there is a requisite but faint odor present to the interior, although not too distinbuishable from general old book smell, as well as a slight darkening to the spine of the DJ as well as the edges of the interior flaps. DJ otherwise bright if not minorly toned. Small stain and slightly larger rubbed area to front panel, two small chips to rear panel. Small chip at the crown of the DJ spine, tiny chips towards the corners of the foredge. Lightly scuffed along the joint and rear foredge. Now in brodart. Interior is clean, as mentioned, though somewhat age toned. Boards clean and firm, though somewhat scuffed along the bottom edges and minorly bumped at the very corner tips of the top edges. All that being said, still an attractive copy !.

First edition of Foote's third novel whichÂanticipates much of the subject matter of his monumental Civil War trilogy. Octavo, original cloth. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, "For Dennis Cross from Shelby Foote 13 Oct 90." The recipient was a friend of Foote's. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. "Love in a Dry Season describes an erotic and economic triangle, in which two wealthy and fantastically unhappy Mississippi families, the Barcrofts and the Carrutherses, are joined by an open-faced fortune hunter from the North, a man whose ruthlessness is matched only by his inability to understand the people he tries to exploit and his fatal incomprehension of the passions he so casually ignites.
