Gilt lettering in small type near top of backstrip is almost entirely gone. Moderate cover soiling, perhaps heaviest toward base of backstrip. Backstrip also has a couple of modest splits at ends. Slight cover warping. Armorial bookplate ("Peter Evans Freke"). Internally sound and clean except for some soiling on endpapers. All edges gilt. Copy 25 of 30 copies bound in full vellum and SIGNED by the artist (Carter). An edition of 550 numbered and unsigned quarterbound copies (purple silk-covered boards backed in vellum) was also published.
