Item Description: World, New York, 1969. First Edition. First Edition. Illustrated with photographs. 1 vols. 8vo. Presentation Copy From The Fallen Idol Of The Phillipines. A flattering biography of the later deposed dictator. A SUPERB PRESENTATION COPY FROM MARCOS TO RAYMOND K. PRICE, JR., SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO PRESIDENT RICHARD NIXON.Inscribed on front free endpaper, "To Mr. Raymond Price / with best wishes, / F. E. Marcos". Nixon's biographer describes Price, who initially came to the White House as a speech writer, as "A rather shy, soft-spoken man [and] thirty-seven-year old former chief editorial writer for.the New York Herald Tribune. He personified the Eastern Establishment [despite which] he got on well with Nixon, for whom he developed a strong admiration and deep sense of loyalty."The presentation of this book was occasioned by Nixon's visit to the Phillipines in July, 1969 where, accompanied by Price, he scored "a public-relations triumph" [Ambrose]. Price received from Marcos several presents, as well as the promise of this book, which duly arrived at the State Department on August 19 and was delivered to Price at the White House. Accompanying the book is a mimeographed memo to Henry Kissinger concerning "Gifts from President Marcos for Members of the White House Staff", conveying it to Price; this is Mr. Price's copy. Also included is the carbon of a gracious letter from Price to Marcos thanking His Excellency for this book and his other gifts.A WONDERFUL ASSOCIATION COPY, AND A HISTORIC ARTIFACT MARKING A HIGH POINT OF THE NIXON ADMINISTRATION AND OF AMERICAN/PHILLIPINE RELATIONS. Stephen E. Ambrose, NIXON, Vol. II, pp. 106 et seq Original brown cloth, very faint waterstain to foot of spine, not affecting contents, else fine in fine dust jacket Illustrated with photographs. 1 vols. 8vo.
