Wer sich die Cover der Bücher von Kopp ansieht, sieht typische Esoterik-Motive: lachende Buddhas, Tarot-Motive, Lichtkegel oder Steine. Und in den Kurzbeschreibungen ist viel von Gurus, Weisheiten und tiefen Einsichten die Rede. Das ist an sich nicht meine Abteilung. Nach der Lektüre denke ich mir aber: Vielleicht werden die falschen Leser von dieser Produktpositionierung angelockt und die richtigen abgeschreckt. Die falschen Leser: Das sind hier die, die "ready-made" Antworten erwarten: Wie werde ich in 21 Tagen glücklich und zufrieden und finde den Sinn des Lebens. Solche Antworten gibt Kopp nicht. Im Gegenteil. Seine Botschaften sind anderer Natur: "Es gibt keinen verborgenen Sinn". "Du hast nichts wirklich unter Kontrolle". Und vielleicht besonders bitter: "Es gibt keinen besonderen Grund dafür, dass du einige Dinge, die du ersehnst, einfach nicht erreichst." Die richtigen Leser: Das sind hier die, die sich mit der Philosophie des "Hier und Jetzt" näher beschäftigen wollen. Das ist nämlich die Brücke, die Buddhismus und Koppsche Psychotherapie verbindet. Es gibt nur die Begegnung, die hier und jetzt stattfindet. Und diese Begegnung ist zugleich der Wirkfaktor. Kopp hat dieses Motiv nicht erfunden. Er verweist auf das alte jüdische Sprichwort, dass immer dann, wenn sich zwei Juden treffen und der eine ein Problem hat, der andere automatisch zum Rabbi wird. Damit sind auch die zwei therapeutischen Richtungen genannt, die bei Kopp zusammenlaufen. Das Geschichten-Erzählen aus der Jungschen Psychotherapie und die Begegnung im Hier und Jetzt aus der Rogerschschen Psychotherapie. Jung wird bei Kopp immer wieder zitiert, Rogers interessanterweise nie. Ein blinder Fleck? Das Buch besteht nun in seinem Hauptteil selbst aus der Wieder-Erzählung von alten und neuen "klassischen" Geschichten: dem Gilgamesch Epos, der Genesis, Siddharta, Macbeth, Don Quijote, der göttlichen Komödie oder Kafkas "Schloss". Daran knüpft Kopp andere Geschichte, nämlich Fallgeschichten um so die einen mit Hilfe der anderen auszuleuchten. Geschichten über Geschichten erzeugen neue Geschichten. Das soll nun Psychotherapie sein? Wenn sich zwei Menschen treffen und einander ihre Geschichten erzählen? Von denen der eine nur deshalb in der Position des Rabbi/Guru/Therapeuten ist, weil sich der andere mit einen Problem an ihn gewandt hat? Und nicht weil er sich durch irgendeine Art von Geheimwissen auszeichnet? Nun. Ja. Oder fast. Das Erzählen soll gleichzeitig die mit den Geschichten verbundenen Emotionen sichtbar und bewusst und akzeptierbar machen. Dieser Umgang mit Emotionen ist es übrigens auch, was den Buddhismus von der Psychotherapie wieder trennt. Kopp zitiert in diesem Zusammenhang auch den schönen Satz von Jung: "Nicht wie man eine Neurose los wird, hat der Kranke zu lernen, sondern wie man sie trägt." Die Ironie des Buches ist natürlich, dass es nur dann Weisheiten enthält, wenn es einen nicht weiser macht. Denn ein Buch ist keine Begegnung. Aber es kann neugierig auf eine solche machen. - Sheldon Kopp ist praktizierender Psychotherapeut und Dozent in Washington D.C. Er hat zwanzig Jahre therapeutische Erfahrung, u.a. in Gefängnissen, Krankenhäusern, Heilanstalten.
