Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a comprehensive look at the indigenous peoples of North America. The author weaves together historical accounts, personal observations, and anthropological research to paint a vivid picture of their lives, customs, and beliefs. The book's focus extends from the Algonquian peoples of the East Coast to the Iroquois of the Great Lakes region, and as far west as the Sioux of the Great Plains. The author places the experiences of these diverse groups within the broader context of European colonization and explores the devastating impact of disease, warfare, and displacement on their populations. The book also examines the resilience and adaptability of Native American cultures, and the ways in which they have endured and evolved over time. Through its exploration of history, culture, and the human experience, this book offers valuable insights into the complex and often tragic relationship between Native Americans and European settlers. He left this post in 1688, venturing further west by the Fox-Wisconsin portage and reached the upper Mississippi. After his return he published his travelogues in the form of letters from 1703, which were very successful and caused a scandal, because his sympathy was with the savages and his criticism of European civilization and religion. The volume also includes a small dictionary of the "Language of the Wild", which begins on page 199 of the second volume. His work is considered one of the first comprehensive descriptions of the western part of the continent and influed the philosopher of the century .P1-3N.
