Softcover. Condition: vg. Quarto. Original printed wrappers. This memorandum consisting of a text volume and 6 Annex volumes is the direct consequence of a January 1947 special envoy meeting on Austrian affairs that was held in London's Lancaster House. During that meeting, Yugoslavia made territorial claims not only against the southern parts of the Austrian province of Carinthia (where the population had voted to remain with Austria in the Carinthian Plebiscite of 1920), but also against parts of Southern Styria which were completely Austrian. The split that occurred between Tito and Stalin shortly thereafter caused the USSR to withdraw its initial support of these demands, and together with the uncompromizing attitude of the British occupation forces in Styria caused the Yugoslav plan to collapse. This work is profusely illustrated with many folded color maps, charts and diagrams. The six Annex volumes are divided as follows: Annex No. 1, Participation of Austria in Hitler's aggression against and occupation of Yugoslavia; Annex No. 2, The national liberation struggle of the Slovenes of Carinthia during World War II; Annex No. 3, Ethnical character of Slovene Carinthia; Annex No. 4, On the history of Carinthian Slovenes; Annex No. 5, Geographical and economic ties of Slovene Carinthia and the frontier areas of Styria with Yugoslavia; Annex No. 6, The Croats of Burgenland. Minor soiling on front wrap of Memorandum volume. Wrappers and interior in overall very good condition.
