Brown blind-stamped cloth slightly rubbed, gilt title to front and spine, slight sunning to spine with wear to top and tail of spine and bumps to corners. G+." During the later years of his life, charitable and philanthropic undertakings, such as penal reform and criminal justice, almost monopolized Gurney's attention. He took part in the 1840 World Anti-Slavery Convention, and was Chairman for the start of the second in 1843. Gurney was a liberal patron of the infant colony of Liberia, kept up a correspondence with President Roberts, and for his many gifts was rewarded by his name being given to a town of Gallenas in 1851.
