Book
Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 351 pages, fold-out map, illustrations, errata slip. Western Frontiersmen Series XIV Reprint of the 1970 edition, this edition was limited to 500 copies. The first part of the book lists the members of the expedition, and provides biographical information on each one. The author contends that there were 51 members instead of the 45 commonly believed. As the expedition was only authorized 45, he believes that the others were paid directly, keeping them off the official roster. The remainder of the book is a condensed version of the daily journals. The author has eliminated material not directly related to the men themselves. He focuses on what the men did each day, who hunted, fished, trapped, manned the boats, etc. This version places the men at center stage, making the reading more direct and intense. Very good reading!.
