Boards have heavy shelf wear with bumping and fraying to corners and crushing and fraying to spine ends. All surfaces tanned and sunned, particularly spine. Book has very strong forward lean.

More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Pencil inscription to front free endpaper. Light cracking and creasing to gutters but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild sunning, denting and scuffing overall. Spine has similar sunning with soft crushing to ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Clipped dust jacket with moderate rubbing, chipping and tearing to edges. Moderate tanning and scuffing overall.

Margaret Emma Faith Irwin (1889 11 December 1969) was an English author of several important historical novels, as well as a factual biography of Sir Walter Raleigh. In a red cloth binding, and an unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart with some shelfwear only; bumping and slight fading to the extremities. The dustwrapper is strong, with just a little discolouration and a few small closed tears to the extremities. Internally, the binding is a little strained, with the pages bright and clean; just scattered spotting, and some marks to the endpapers. With a personal ink copperplate inscription to the front free endpaper. Very Good. book.
