Shelved above Case 8. Stephenie Meyer was born December 24, 1973 in Hartford, Connecticut, though she was raised primarily in Phoenix, Arizona. Meyers was raised Mormon, remaining so into today, something which she has noted as greatly influencing her writing. Though she'd considered a career in law while in college, Meyer would choose to pursue her dream of being a writer after having her first son in 1997. 'Twilight' itself was supposedly conceived by Meyers in a dream she had about a woman and an ogre who craved her blood. Though she was rejected by several publishers at first, Meyers eventually made a 3-book deal with Little, Brown, and Company which grew into a 4-book series. This initial set of books, released from 2005-2008, would come to be known as the 'Twilight Saga', one of the most popular romance series of all time. The series would spawn a series of 5 movies based on the books, the final two installments being produced by Meyer's own production company. The series itself was told from the perspective of Bella Swan and followed her romance with the vampire Edward Cullen and werewolf Jacob Black. 'Midnight Sun' was planned as a companion novel to the 'Twilight Saga', retelling the story of 'Twilight' from Edward Cullen's perspective. However, following a leak online of a rough draft of the novel, Meyers put the project on indefinite hold. There were murmurings of it's release in 2015, but the release of a similar book in the 'Fifty Shades' series led to further delays in 'Midnight Sun's' release.
