First edition. Inscribed by Truman on the front blank, Twelvemo. 212, [4], [12, ads] pp. Publisher's dark purple cloth with blind-stamped borders. Cover lettering within an elaborate gilt decorated panel, gilt spine lettering. A very clean and fresh copy with only the most minimal of extremity wear.This copy belonged to California Governor, George C. Perkins, with his stamp on the front endpaper. As well as being Governor of California, Perkins was a United States Senator from California from July 26, 1893, to March 3, 1915. Truman was a noted journalist who managed five California newspapers during his career. The ads are particularly satisfying; Taber Photography, Palace Hotel, the Silver King Mining Company in Arizona, S. & G. Gump, the Laguna and San Vincente Ranches in Los Angeles, etc.
