  • Hardcover. Condition: Fair. No Jacket. A Revised and Corrected Edition (1899) of The Occult Life of Jesus of Nazareth, plus the referenced 1897 debate between representatives of Spiritualism and Christianity (1899). A Fair to Good 12mo hardcover in NO dust jacket (if issued). Black boards with rubbed silver lettering and decoration on the spine and upper board. Bumped, rubbed, and exposed corners; rubbed and soiled boards; erosion and other wear in the spine head and tail edges. Decorated yellow end papers. The front paste-down has a faint prior owner name plus some repaired gutter damage. Starter in the rear hinge. Frontispiece illustration of Jesus of Nazareth and accompanying tissue are loose. While there are isolated penciled margin marks, soiling or dog ears, and all pages have some age-appropriate tanning, the overwhelming bulk of the contents otherwise appear clean and securely bound, Dust staining to the pages' edges. The bulk of this book (pages 1-325) relates to the life of Jesus as "given on spiritual authority, from spirits who were contemporary mortals with Jesus while on earth" through the mediumship of Mr. Smyth. Aside from several pages of publisher ads in the rear, the balance of the book (pages 1-106) relates to an 1897 debate between Mr Hull, representing Spiritualism, and Mr. Covert, representing Christianity. A fascinating, fully legible copy that is NOT an ex-library book!.
