He was an entertaining travel writer, who wrote always with a definite purpose in mind, and the main theme of 'An Overland Journey' is the theme that ran through Greeley's adult life: "Go West, Young Man." " Book condition: Owner's name, in ink, is written on the blank page after the front fly; top edge is dyed green, other two edges have darkened slightly to a very pale tan color; rear endpapers have a thin horizontal line of adhesive residue (gum arabic?), where something was mounted; blank page adjacent rear flyleaf has nine page notes written in ink. Otherwise, book is in nice condition.
