First Edition
First Edition. Navy cloth in dust jacket; 8vo. 204 pp. The scarce hardcover issue inscribed to a poet/professor by Rothenberg and signed "Jerry". A near fine lightly shelfworn copy in an about very good jacket, the verso a bit toned with a few short closed tears, small loss at the ends. Rothenberg's first collection with a major (New York) publisher - this volume later reissued by New Directions; however, by this time he had already had a dozen volumes of poetry published, as well as several anthologies and translations (mostly from the German). He would in the same year publish the influential anthology SHAKING THE PUMPKIN: Indian Poetry of the Americas, and popularize the term "ethnopoetics" which he coined.
