First Edition
Octavo, pp. [i-iii] iv-v [vi] [3-5] 6-161 [162: blank], flyleaves at front and rear, publisher's green decorated cloth stamped in blind and gold, light brown coated endpapers. First edition. This volume, complete by itself, is part of a series articles on various public topics published in the HUDSON GAZETTE and DAILY REGISTER between 1876 and 1884 by John Francis Collin (1802-1889), a prominent farmer and politician, born in Hillsdale, New York. He served as member of the New York state assembly in 1834. He was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-ninth Congress (March 4, 1845 - March 3, 1847). A pro-farm, anti-Republican, anti-protective tariff, anti-Chinese campaign document that states that unless the people save us at the next election "a comparative few unprincipled men, and countless millions of Chinese . will establish the most arbitrary government on the face of the earth, sustained by Chinese bayonets." A very good copy. Uncommon. (#155720).
