First Edition
Hardcover. 12mo. Black cloth with orange spine lettering, pictorial dust jacket. Very good/good only. While text block is fine and tight, front/rear boards show mild mottling; jacket has mild edgewear and some archivally mended (on verso) edge tears with large triangular chip to rear panel -- yet still overall fairly attractive, with cheesy front panel graphics. Tight and nice first English edition of the eighth title in Sinclair's popular eleven-volume "Lanny Budd" series concerning this suave and debonair son of an American weapon manufacturer who manages to get himself involved in all manner of world events. Jacket front panel conveys the feel: "Dinner at the White House with Churchill, espionage in Tunisia, strange encounters with Hitler and Göring inside grim, bomb-battered Germany -- Lanny Budd, secret agent, continues his thrilling career." Sinclair (1878-1968) was an incredibly prolific writer of fiction and nonfiction who also dabbled in politics during his ample free time.

Book First Edition Signed
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. First edition lacking the jacket, but this copy is nicely inscribed Best Wishes and signed by Sinclair. Some spine lean and a few edge stains, otherwise a decent copy. Very nice, period bookplate on the cover verso opposite to the signature. Call me old fashioned or even antiquated, but I still admire these well intentioned socialists whose efforts to make the world more equitable have come up against the extreme capitalism of the past half century. Signed by Author(s).
