Hard Cover. Violet cloth with design in blindstamp, spine lettered in gilt; 293 pps. Pro-Irish novel set in that country around 1780. The Irish-born Rev. Hugh Quigley joined the American Misionary movement and came to the United States to both minister to and propigate the Irish Catholic population. He was rector of the University of St. Mary in Chicago and later was active among the Chippewas and among California miners. His fiction works were decidedly pro-Catholic and the plots drew heavity on Irish traditions and ancient history. A tight, internally clean example, vintage presentation bookplate front pastedown. Spine well sunned but with gilt lettering clear, additional sunning to the cloth of the front board.
