First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine in Very Good DJ. First edition. First American printing of Rifleman Dodd and reprinting of The Gun, near fine cloth hardcover with blue illustration to cover and blue and red to spine shows a name at top of front endpaper and just a touch of bumping at corners, else tight and clean, in a very good dust jacket (price at both inner flaps) that shows some edgewear that includes wrinkling at bottom of rear panel and closed tears. 311 pages with foreword by Carl Van Doren. Still a pleasing copy in jacket of this duo from the noted author of Hornblower and other works that makes up an installment in the Readers Club line of reprints intended to bring attention to work unnecessarily neglected.

Book First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. This volume contains the first printing of the Rifleman, but a later printing of The Gun, which was originally published by Little, Brown & Company in 1933, Warren Chappell designed the book which has a Foreword by Carl Van Doren, and supportive blurbs by Ernest Hemingway, Stephen Vincent Benet, and Sir Hugh Walpole. The boards are khaki colored with The Readers Club design in dark blue on the front cover and designs in blue with read lettering on the spine. The top edge is dyed dark blue. The book itself looks like it has been unread, but the front board upper left corner is bumped and there is a number stamped on the rear pastedown at the top-there are no other marks in this book. The dust wrapper's background is read with lettering and designs in blue and white. The spine is faded and there is chipping, folds, creases, and small pieces of the wrapper missing along the edges.
