About this Item: Simon and Schuster, New York, 1961. Cloth. Condition: Good+. Green boards with gold titles enscribed in black squares are bright, showing light rubbing, soiling and edge wear. Spine, hinges, and text block are secure. Endpapers are a map of Europe, showing the areas of German conquest and oocupation. Shirer's justly popular and critically acclaimed single-text history of the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany. This copy came from the library of Colonel Hubert "Hub" Zemke (1914 - 1994) who was a career officer in the United States Air Force, a fighter pilot in World War II, and a leading United States Army Air Forces ace. General Jimmy Doolittle praised Zemke as his "greatest fighter group commander". He commanded the 56th Fighter Group in England, which came to be known as "Zemke's Wolf Pack".
