Evatt records the clash between William Bligh (17 years after the mutiny on the Bounty), who was Governor of New South Wales, and John Macarthur and officers of the New South Wales Corps over control of the importation of rum, used for trading. Bligh tried to restrict the importation of rum, and his officers rebelled and arrested Bligh. Title page subtitle: 'Including the John Murtagh Macrossan Memorial Lectures Delivered at the University of Queensland, June 1937.'
