This is 1 of 1300 hardcover trade copies with a black and tan patterned cloth back-strip, illustrated paper boards, and a pasted-on title label on the spine. Harry Crosby was a nephew of banker/financier J.P. Morgan. He died in 1929 at the age of 31 in a double suicide pact in a New York hotel. Harry's wife Caresse Crosby published Hart Crane's "The Bridge" in France. Loosely laid in is a small prospectus for the book from Black Sparrow.

Harry Crosby (1898-1929) was profoundly changed by his military service in World War I, choosing to forgo the responsibilities of his wealthy banking family in Boston to write poetry and literature. Crosby married Mary Peabody and the two moved to Europe, where they regularly engaged in the social circle that included Salvador Dali, Ernest Hemingway, and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Together, Harry and Mary "Caresse" Crosby founded the publishing house, Black Sun Press, which is known for its early publications of famous authors like James Joyce, D.H. Lawrence, and Ernest Hemingway.
