No Jacket. 2nd Edition. small folio, near contemporary calf with four raised bands to spine with simple gilt rules, worn at extremities and upper board held only by internally placed tape, portrait frontis of Charles I has been cut down and mounted as has the title page with a vignette of the Sheldonian - both leaves cut back to frame, title mount lacking a small piece at top corner, name of a previous owner has been partly erased from title page and the name of the author added in a neat hand, one leaf of the Preface has been close-cropped to the lower margin with the loss of the bottom line of text, small round library stamp of Cheltenham makes several marginal appearances, frontis & title [iv] + 136 +185-294 + 361-439 + [i} + 449-488 + 553-650 + [iv] & 737-959 & [xiii] , the pagination is complete despite irregular numbering & is suggestive of interruptions in the printing process (Lowndes 682) two additional divisional title pages, decorative headpieces and foliate initials, uncommon.
